Zack Morris, Poison, and Scrunchies

I'm an 80's baby through and through so I spent some time today revisiting my junior high years- the years of mismatched socks, pop princesses, and my first kiss.  Aahhh... those were the good ol' days.  I decided that today's blog post should be dedicated to my favorite memories of the 80s!

1.  The pop princess show down between Debbie Gibson and Tiffany- everybody had a side.  It was like the Biggie Smalls/Tupac face off of the hip hop world (well, kinda... minus the violence, drugs, and fancy cars).

Only In My Dreams by Debbie Gibson (If you were a hat wearing, jean tearing kinda gal)
I Think We're Alone Now by Tiffany (Nobody ever knew the baby-faced redhead's last name)

2.  Lisa Frank stationary was an absolutely necessary part of school shopping.  Seriously, I offered to give up getting new Underoos in order to get some Keroppi notebooks and stickers!
3.  Everybody had a Cabbage Patch Kid- or two.  We all put their birth certificates in a very safe place and cared for them as if they were our real children... our non crying, non pooping children.
 4.  Garbage Pail Kids were even better!  We traded them just like the baseball cards of the 50s and the Pokemon cards of the 90s and the grosser, the better.
5.  Aliens, monsters, and robots... OH MY!  We loved our sci-fi in the 80s, even if it was in the form of:  glowing fingered E.T., hairy house pet Alf, and mutating cars called Transformers.

6.  Big. Hair. Bands.  Need I say more?

7.  Why would you even think of leaving the house without a matching Scrunchie in your side pony tail?
8.  We got to keep all of our Lip Lickers lip gloss and Aqua Net hair spray in Caboodles!
9.  We sat as a family every Thursday night and learned the life lessons that were taught by the Huxtable family on The Cosby Show (all of us teenie boppers paid more attention to the amazing style icon- Denise).

10.  Even though we were only in junior high school, we knew that high school was going to be the best time of our life- afterall, high school was exactly like Saved By the Bell!

  1. WOW, this post reminded me of when my oldest daughter was growing up.. she was into almost all of these...

I swear I had 50 scrunchies or more that matched all my shirts... lol

    Cool post girl :)

  2. I remember enjoying ALF on TV. Even if he did eat cats.

  3. Ah, the good old 80's. Nothing says that decade to me quite like old episodes of Kids Incorporated. Censored pop songs sung by pre-teens who couldn't act.

  4. Um. Yes, yes, yes ... I love ALL of this (except Garbage Pail Kids - I never got into that grossness LOL) ... Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

  5. Hi there, Enjoying reading your blog BUT I must correct you. KeroKeroKerropi (Keropi) is a Sanrio character, not Lisa Frank. I basically only know this because he's my favorite of the Sanrio gang and I ALSO had a Lisa Frank sticker addiction and though I'm near the age of 29 I still have this entire album dedicated to Lisa Frank stickers. Though I did not forgo my pantaloons for these said stickers I did literally dream about getting Sanrio products on Christmas morning. hahaha. Thanks and keep being a badass! :)
