Soul Food Monday

I never realized how important it is to nourish my soul just as much as I nourish my body.  Feeding my soul with warmth, positivity, and love is so crucial to my well being and relationships.

"You have to grow from the inside out.  None can teach you, none can make you spiritual.  There is no other teacher but your own soul."
-Swami Vivenkananda

This week I am nourishing my soul by respecting and learning from my elders.  I was raised to respect those who are older and wiser than I and I am raising my boys to do the same.  Our elders can teach us so much about life and love that we would never learn otherwise.

I think that so many people of today's generation feel that because they have a formal education or a college degree they have nothing more to learn.  An education makes you smarter- it does NOT make you wiser.  Wisdom comes with age, experience, and maturity and no level of book smarts can teach you that.

I think that it is important to pay attention to the life lessons that our elders have to offer us.  If we attempt to learn from our parents rather than ignore what they try to teach us, we will prevent ourselves from a lot of heartache and mistakes.

The saying, "Mother knows best," wasn't created for no reason.  :-)

  1. I completely agree! We have a culture that worships youth, and that's kind of a shame. We should all respect our elders more and learn from their wisdom.

  2. There is much wisdom in this post!

  3. Hola Sarah!
