I'm terrible with directions. Seriously, the worst. I get lost all the time... I could get lost finding the city hall in a one street town!
We are currently at the Shriner's hospital in Portland, Oregon and it is located on a hill overlooking the city on a 100 acre campus with: four other hospitals, six parking garages, and about a million private practices.
The Shriner's Hospital is amazing all around. The staff, the rooms, the volunteers, the activities, the advanced medical equipment and knowledge available to them, everything. Everything but the cafeteria. It's awful. So awful that I had my husband bring me an array of non-refrigerated foods to store in our room so that I don't starve!
Then the nurses told me about the 'good' cafeteria. This 'good' cafeteria has: a pasta bar, a salad bar, a grille, a Starbucks, and is open 24 hours a day.
*Insert beam of magical light and Baptist chorus singing "Hallelujah!"
I attempted to find the 'good' cafeteria and the Starbucks last week and got lost. Not, "oops, I took a wrong turn" lost but, "I'll never get out of the basement of this hospital" lost. That's right, somehow I ended up in the basement of a huge hospital during non-open hours... spooky. The lights were dimmed, there wasn't a window to be found, and it oddly reminded me of a horror movie.
But I'm no quitter! I decided to try again today and I photo documented it for all of you lucky souls!

This is me (naked faced again... Yay me!) in the comfort of the Shriner's elevator and visibly anxious.
My view from the skybridge to the other hospital- the one that contains the 'good' cafeteria.
Success!
Look, I'm going the right way!
Starbucks has never tasted so good!

I am horrible with directions as well! I always hand the phone off to my husband if someone needs directions.
ReplyDeleteyeah excited that you made it with great success!
ReplyDeleteMy sister is a doctor at OHSU - so I know how confusing that campus is! The sky bridge is pretty cool! Glad you got your starbucks!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I am horrible at directions. I have to use a gps sometimes and I doubt my ability to follow it. I know that IS horrible.
ReplyDeleteThe hospitals in Pittsburgh are like that too! Everything is connected with walkways, elevators and escalators. Take one wrong turn and you are totally screwed!
ReplyDeleteI love a happy ending!
ReplyDeleteYou cannot be worst with the directions, I swear I am worse. I can get lost crossing the street.
ReplyDeletehappy you got your coffee finally :)

ReplyDeletehahaha...so cute! love it!! and yum, starbucks, a woman after my own heart.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found the good cafeteria. Hospitals can be so confusing and creepy, haha I had to get over my fear pretty quickly when I got pregnant with my twins. Ours didnt have a Starbucks though! Lucky girl. (:
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. I am horrible with directions too. I still get lost even with my gps telling me which way to go. Maybe one day I will learn to listen to her. lol
