Soul Food Monday

It's Soul Food Monday and my soul could use some nourishment.  My brain needed a reminder today... a reminder that I can not be the best mom if I do not take care of myself.

You see, my youngest just had a pretty extensive procedure and requires daily monitoring by doctors.  As a result, we are living in the hospital for the next 6-8 weeks.  As lovely as no dishes, no cooking, and having a maid may sound, the entire situation is very stressful.  I've been taking great care of him... and forgetting about me.

I have pushed the golden rule aside.  I have selectively forgotten that you can not take the best care of someone else if you are not caring for yourself.  I have not been feeding my soul.  I have been watching PBS Kids, playing video games and pretend, and reading lots of books about insects and cars yet the books that I brought for myself have been left untouched.

So today I make a promise to myself.  I promise that I will take a walk by myself, find the Starbucks, and read my book.  I will devote some time today to making myself a priority. I will take care of me.

Heck, I might even take a nap.

  5. I hope your lil guy is doing okay!! You are a hundred percent right! I tell it to my mom all the time who is currently taking care of my grandmother. You have to take a lil "Me" time and there is not one thing wrong with that! Be strong and I hope you have a great day! =)

  10. That's hard mama. We had a stint in the NICU with our newborn last year and it was quite overwhelming. So yes take care of yourself.
